Jade Alga ™ (INCI: AQUA / WATER (and) HYDROLYZED ULVA LACTUCA EXTRACT (and) PENTYLENE GLYCOL) is an extract of Ulva lactuca rich in ULVANI (> 1.5%), sulphate polysaccharides consisting of glucuronic and iduronic acid (BHA) .
Ulva lactuca is the only alga to have developed a unique adaptive strategy: shape memory technology. Armoricana variety, is a green alga that grows on the northern French coasts, exposed to the greatest tides in Europe: a phenomenon of exceptional magnitude and intensity that results in strong stress for the cells of this alga.
When the tide goes out, the alga undergoes severe dehydration with consequent cell contraction, vice versa, when the tide rises, the alga is again submerged and exposed to strong rehydration that induces extreme cellular expansion.
However, this alga has developed an adaptive strategy that allows it to survive the repeated cellular deformations induced by the cyclical alternation of the tides: Shape Memory Technology.
The secret of this strategy is contained in the heart of the algae: inside the cell walls in which the native ULVANS are contained. These polysaccharides rich in sulphates are made up of glucuronic and iduronic acid molecules and create a flexible matrix that allows the cells to control and support the alternation of the phases of contraction and expansion so that the deformations to which they are subjected do not cause damage to their structure.
Similarly, our skin is also subjected to continuous deformations. However, with aging and exposure to pollutants, its adaptive capacity is reduced and the loss of shape memory leads to an early appearance of wrinkles, hyperkeratinization and loss of cellular cohesion.
