BIOYOUTH™ EGT Pro: antioxidant and anti-photo ageing

BIOYOUTH™ EGT Pro [INCI: Ergothioneine, Armillaria Matsutake, Hydrolyzed Sodium Hyaluronate, Trehalose], combines low molecular weight hydrolyzed hyaluronic acid (<5000Da) with the fermentation product of two mushrooms used for centuries in traditional Chinese medicine: Armillaria matsutake and Hericium erinaceum. The powerful antioxidant properties of BIOYOUTH™ EGT Pro derive from the high concentration of L-Ergothioneine (EGT), obtained thanks to this joint-fermentation process.

What is L-Ergothioneine (EGT)?

  • EGT is a sulfur derivative of L-Histidine, widely diffused in the animal and plant kingdom;
  • It is obtained only through the diet and its content in the human body decreases with age;
  • EGT is a more powerful antioxidant than CoQ10, Trolox and Glutathione (bibliography available);
  • It is able to penetrate inside the mitochondria and exert a direct scavenging action against oxygen free radicals;
  • Suppresses the expression of TNF-α and MMP-1 in fibroblasts subjected to UV irradiation;
  • It inhibits the inflammatory reaction induced by UV-B radiation;
  • Metal claws.

 What are the benefits of fermentation?

There are three ways to get EGT:

  • Chemical synthesis: complex, expensive process, environmental impact
  • Mushroom extraction: expensive and presence of impurities
  • Fermentation from mushrooms: moderate reaction conditions, readily available raw materials and stereo-selective process that allows to obtain Ergothionenine in the specific configuration (L-Ergothioneine).

Why are two different mushrooms used for fermentation?

To increase the EGT yield obtained by fermentation.
Bloomage collected two natural mushrooms from the Shangri-La forest Hericium erinaceum and Armillaria matsutake, and extracted and purified the vegetative systems (the mycelia).
Through the joint cultivation and regulation of the growth and metabolism of the mycelia of both mushrooms, BIOYOUTH™ EGT Pro is obtained, much richer in EGT than the product that would be obtained from the fermentation of a single species.
BIOYOUTH™ EGT Pro is also rich in beta-glucan, peptides, amino acids and polysaccharides.

What do the in vitro tests on BIOYOUTH™ EGT Pro show?

  • Reduction of ROS caused by exposure to UV rays: -19% (treatment with BIOYOUTH ™ EGT Pro prior to exposure to UV rays); -32% (treatment with BIOYOUTH ™ EGT Pro after exposure to UV rays)
  • Reduction of cell apoptosis caused by UVB radiation: -34%
  • Increased activity of Superoxide Dismutase: + 23%
  • Reduction of H2O2-induced lipoperoxidation: -44%

What does the in vivo test conducted on BIOYOUTH ™ EGT Pro demonstrate?

The in vivo test with BIOYOUTH ™ EGT Pro (0.5%) was conducted on 30 volunteers for 4 weeks:

  • Reduction of skin spots: -10%
  • Reduction of spots induced by UV radiation: -7%
  • Wrinkle reduction: -8%
  • Increased hydration: + 15%
  • Increase in skin elasticity: + 20%
